This is an interesting plaque that rests outside the storefront. It reads, "116 N. Willow, constructed in the early 1920’s, served Harrison during it’s growth period as a town store. ‘Spike’ and Katherine Cavender, and son, Steve, operated their variety store business, The Well-Worth Dime Store here in the late 1950’s. The store was destroyed by the Crooked Creek flood on May 7, 1961. With the help of many friends, Spike successfully re-opened his business in this same location. During this time, he continued to make “greek seasoning” to give to his family and close friends. As early as 1968, Spike and Steve decided to manufacture and market the greek seasoning blend. They spent the 4th of July bottling their spices and leaving it “for sale” at a few local markets. Consequently, they launched what is now known as S-C Seasoning Co., Inc., manufacturer of Cavender’s Greek Seasoning. This spice still manufactured in Harrison today is considered a “secret” ingredient passed down from generation to generation. This building is still owned by the Cavender family and serves as a retail presence for seasoning products and memorabilia from over 60 years of family businesses.
